Become a Certified Translator & Interpreter
ARE YOU CERTIFIED?
If you plan to work as a language interpreter or translator you will be occasionally be asked to provide documentation regarding your skills, credentials and training. Some states have state certification programs in place and provide on-going testing and support.  If you plan on working in other areas outside of the court system or speak a language other than Spanish you may need additional certification, credentials and/or training.  Additionally, after receiving your certification you will need help starting your own language business, check out our recently published How to Start Your Own Language Translation & Interpreter Business book.  This book has over 300 pages of ideas, tips and budgets to help you start and manage a successful language business. Minimum Requirements to apply (All applicants must meet 2 or more Requirements)
  • Current Certification from a state, government body or private institution (ex. ATA)
    Prior Education in the Language from an accredited institution
  • Proof of a degree or certificate in translation and/or interpreting
  • Evidence of at least 3 years work experience as a translator and/or interpreter 
  • 3 years teaching experience of language
